Take Heed that You are Not Deceived

Derek Prince says:
Almost every passage in the New Testament that relates to the End of the Age contains some kind of warning against being deceived. I’m just going to take two passages from Matthew chapter 24 from the words of Jesus Himself. He was asked what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age. And when He began to answer the first thing He did was to warn His disciples against being deceived.
So He said in Matthew 24, 4 & 5. Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My Name saying I am the Messiah [Anointed One] and will deceive many. (Matthew 24:4-5)
Then in the same chapter, in verse 23 and following. Jesus says, then if anyone says to you “Look here is the messiah, or there, do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and show [be] great Signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even the very elect. See, I have told you beforehand.” So Jesus says, you can’t say I didn’t warn you. (Matthew 24:23)
So you have Truth in three related aspects
- The truth is Jesus
- The truth is the Bible
- The truth is the Spirit
In order to know for sure that you really have the truth you have to check all three coordinates. Jesus, the Bible, and the Spirit. For instance, somebody may preach a whole lot about Jesus, and it may sound very good, but when you check your Bible it isn’t what the Bible says about Jesus.
Or somebody may preach a great deal about the Holy Spirit, and work up an atmosphere of tremendous excitement and exhilaration, but when you really check it, that person is not teaching the truth about Jesus. Or a person may lay great emphasis on the Bible and the scripture, but have nothing of the Spirit – it’s just dead letter.
So, in order to be sure that you have the truth you have to have three things in place.
- Is it true to Jesus?
- Is it true to the Bible?
- And does it have the witness of the Spirit?
When you can put those three things together, then you may be confident that you have the truth.
Why We Are Here
This is why we are here to put the Bible into what Brother Stair teaches and we show you how his teachings and doctrines not only do not have the truth of Jesus, the Spirit, or the Bible in them but that they are most often completely contrary to what the Bible says and teaches. While the Overcomer focuses you on an emphasis of the witness of the Spirit. Don’t be fooled into thinking it has anything to do with Jesus just because it mouths ‘Jesus is coming soon’ – that’s done to put you in fear so that you think that you’d better come to them for your protection. And the Bible is just there to manipulate scripture to back up his false teachings, and because his target is Christians, he needs to use the scriptures to bait them with.
This false witness is sold to us as the only thing needed to verify the prophet. After that, we are to solely listen to and obey the prophet – rather than God. This is why another false teaching of Brother Stair’s is that the prophet represents God in your midst. That is error and heresy. This is not the truth of the Spirit. You were warned to test the spirits on these prophets.
Furthermore, Brother Stair’s get-a-witness doctrine is not anything like what Derek Prince is talking about here about a witness. Brother Stair makes you think that God has given you a witness that I’m God’s man and that is enough to settle it for you. You are to never again go to God and ask Him to verify what Brother Stair is teaching (or especially) doing. This is not the witness of the Spirit. This is sorcery, a magic trick that is supposed to get you to allow Brother Stair to get away with all the awful sins you will eventually be witnessing him doing.
Thus, Brother Stair, and now Pastor Rice alike, are void of these three truths. They do not pass the test.
Brother Stair set himself up as the new Jesus, the current Son of Man, the one that is greater than Jesus – thus he replaced Jesus. That’s not the truth of Jesus. [That isn’t what the Bible says about Jesus] Brother Stair excommunicated you if you didn’t have this witness of the Spirit that he wanted you to have, or if you lost it. Brother Stair would often rail at his congregation for not going along with his misquoting or misinterpretation of the Bible. Because he would say it says what it doesn’t say, then he would put his own spin on top of that and make it say and mean something contrary to what it says. That does not pass the Bible truth test.
Strike Three…
In this, we see how Brother Stair and his Overcomer Ministry fail in all three points that Derek Prince makes in the following video. It would do us well to heed these warnings and test these spirits. At the least, you could take an hour and a half out of your eternity to listen to some truth. Rather than spending eternity in a place where deceivers and their deceived go.
Or did you not know that? Even Brother Stair taught you that if I die naturally I’ve been a liar and you’re going to go to Hell because you believed a lie!
Remember, we’re talking about being deceived! Right there Brother Stair admits (now in light of his untimely death) that I’ve been deceived – along with all his followers. Perhaps Pastor Rice can help you put that in your pipe and smoke it. But wait, he did. Rice turned Brother Stair’s words into a bigger lie (and confirmed his statement) when he said (trying to justify the lies) that we should not expect Brother Stair’s words to manifest. That it was a trap to do so. He must have forgotten how Brother Stair claimed to be absolute!
“Let’s not fall into the trap of trying to vindicate Brother Stair in seeing that everything that he said ‘by the letter’ materializes.” (Pastor James Rice, Rosh Hashanah Service Sept, 7, 2021)
People that have left Brother Stair have not departed from the truth – they have found the truth. Test the spirits on these men and you will find them to be liars (Rev 2:2; 1Jn 4:1), and you too can come to the truth of God and stop being deceived by these end-time pretenders.
A Warning about Brother Stair’s “another Gospel”:
Warning!!!
This warning of Jesus to God’s people, and here to His apostles, should really wake us up (Matt 24:4-5, 23). Yet, why is it the one thing that Christians seem to be misled in the most? The thing that they are not paying heed to, the thing that scripture so expressly warns God’s people about??? Jesus is not making an observation that we are going to observe about others in the End Times. No! This is about the Church. Those that consider themselves saved. This is not about the Pharisees, the cults, or the wicked – it’s a warning to God’s people because they are the ones who will be deceived in the Last Days. Do you understand that?
Here in the Last Days, this is treated as if this shouldn’t even need to be said, because (we reason) ‘God’s people aren’t going to be deceived’. ‘That’s talking about all those people who don’t know God that are deceived’ – so we reason. ‘We’re not deceived’ – are we? We consider ourselves the elect, and if you’re unknowingly following a cult leader you might even think you’re the special very elect. Because he’s told you so.
Run!!!
Cult leaders like to put you on the knifes edge that if you dare to question them or lose your grip on this frail reality that you can barely grasp – which is that you are one of the elect that has the chance to be the few following the great man of God for the times – and that if you hold onto that without wavering you can be one of the very elect. No matter what truth might come up to contradict or question that house of cards – don’t you dare leave or question it or you’re going to be damned. That would be a cult!!! Without question. This is what Jesus is warning us about. This is a deception that you are under. Get out!!!
The big problem in that scenario (as real as it is) is that there is one thing we should do in any situation like this, it would be the safest thing for us to do in this life. Always run when you hear someone teaching you into this fear and knife edge. If you cannot question them – like the Bereans questioned Paul (Acts 17:11) – then that person is a cult leader. We were warned!
Realize that the deception comes to God’s people. It is focused on God’s people. It is the deception of God’s people. This is not Jesus pointing the finger and saying that others will be deceived. He’s warning His people in hopes that they are warned and stay alert and test the spirits and thereby not be deceived. You see, Jesus knew there would be many deceivers trying God’s people in many different ways and angles. So in that understanding, we have our work cut out for us because there are going to be many deceptions cast our way by many different deceivers.
The Very Elect
Another deception that the deceivers spin on this so that you don’t focus on them being the deceiver, is that there are two different elect spoken of here by Jesus. This is another deception they are spinning. They are misunderstanding King James English and they are intentionally deceiving you, either in their ignorance or by design. The term the very elect is just saying the actual elect or even the elect, as almost all other translations put it. That’s what Jesus is saying there. That this deception could deceive even the elect. Jesus is not saying there are two kinds of elect – as some deceivers teach. Did you get caught in that deception? See how easily you can be deceived?
For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect

This is a warning to God’s people. The very people (not two different kinds) who are ignoring this warning as applying to them.
Many Shall Come
Right down the line with another deception, some deceivers have sidetracked their followers on gnats so that they ignore the camel – themselves (the deceiver) (Mt 23:24). They focus you that many deceivers shall come and that they are not of the many and that their followers are few. Thus they have their followers deceived into believing that they are safe with their non-many leader. They are thus deceived.
Many such deceptions like this are used by the Last Day Deceivers to throw their followers off their scent as a deceiver. They focus on some non-important word or aspect (gnat) and strain all their effort on that thing to the exclusion of what really matters (the camels). Like ‘very elect’ or ‘many’. They have omitted the weightier matters (Mt 23:23). In this, they succeed in deceiving their follower into dismissing the actual warning Jesus is giving – who He’s warning us of – and thus they become the deceived elect that Jesus issued this warning about.
In this case of the many, what some deceivers have done is to focus you on those with many followers as being the deceived. Thus their few followers are safe, all because they are few in number and not of the many. This is just another diversion (deception) tactic to get their elect followers from detecting that they might be deceived by a deceiver.
Only Believe
Along with this, they capitalize on getting you to believe them – only believe was the mantra of the deceiver William Branham who taught that he was the Seventh Angel Messanger. This is in direct opposition to what Jesus tells us to do here – do not believe [them] (Matt 24:24). So it should be no surprise that they want us to believe them. That is how they deceive us.
The Great Sign
Finally, the major defining mark of these deceivers is that they proclaim signs and wonders. They might even claim to be some great sign. That’s the direction that Simon the sorcerer did in Acts 8:9-10. This is evident in Willaim Branham and his wannabe followers, like Brother Stair. They both boasted of the great wonders of God that followed their ministries. Brother Stair filled his listener’s ears with amazing stories of his great signs and wonders. Stories, like Simon the sorcerer used to deceive the whole city (Acts 8:9-10). Once they got their listeners to believe their signs and wonders their deception was complete. Remember, Jesus said they did this so as to deceive (Mt 24:23).
The Christ Sign
Brother Stair and William Branham (to name a few of the many) would take this another step in the sign arena. They would make themselves out to BE the sign. With a greater and greater exaltation thereof. They cranked the volume up to be THE sign, and then The SIGN. Brother Stair claimed to be The Sign of Christ’s Coming – then he proclaimed himself to be greater than the Christ soon before his death. They come in My Name saying I am the messiah [the anointed one] (Mt 24:4-5).
At that point, it shouldn’t have been hard to see clearly that he certainly was a deceiver. Brother Stair fulfilled all the points that Jesus laid down to identify these deceivers. But his followers were under such a strong delusion (that God gave them) that many of them still continue to this day (2Thes 2:11). This is why it is important that we heed the warning of Jesus quickly and not play on the fence with these deceivers.
Deceiver Identified
Here are the bullet points, the seven signs of whom Jesus is identifying in His warning in Matthew 24:
- They come in the name of God/Christ/Jesus – they are God’s Messenger (Mt 24:5)
- They say Jesus is Lord/Jesus is Coming (Mt 24:5)
- OR that they are Christ/the Anointed/God’s Special Messenger (Mt 24:5)
- They say Christ/The Anointed/The Body of Christ is HERE (in their special location) (Mt 24:23)
- Or Here (their satellite locations) (Mt 24:23)
- They arise – they magnify themselves (Mt 24:23)
- They give great Signs and Wonders (their past stories) (Mt 24:23)
- They say “He is in the wilderness“ – ‘The Body/The Anointed Prophet is in the special place – go there’. (Mt 24:26)
- They say He is here in our Inner Sanctum – only those with us know God (Mt 24:26)
If you didn’t see it – all these are fulfilled in Brother Stair and his Overcomer Ministry which continues under the reign of Pastor James Rice. What we have here is another gospel that presents to us another Messiah. Those who accept this gospel of Brother Stair’s have also accepted him as their Christ. A changing of the gospel represents (and requires) a changing of the Christ figure of that gospel. This is clear in the ministry of Brother Stair as even he has told us as much in those two links.
This is why Paul said there is no other gospel that proclaims Jesus as the Christ (Gal 1:6-9). And those who preach any other gospel, which Brother Stair boasts that he does, Paul curses them to damnation (Gal 1:9). False gospel = false christ. It doesn’t matter what new name you put on it – kingdom gospel – it’s still another gospel, and that is what makes it accursed. It will curse and damn those that abide by it.

Brother Stair sets himself up as The Lamb – “He’s here”. [get what he’s saying?]
Jesus became sin. He was guilty of every sin that every man ever committed.

Read Your Bible!
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Pr 3:6 NIV78/RSV). What does that tell us about Brother Stair and Pastor Rice? Where you have crooked paths you have people who do not acknowledge God in all their ways – no matter how they speak to the contrary. They are liars!
Take Heed
God’s word is true. God’s word will reveal to you the way these men walk. Read your Bible and depart from these worthless idols (Jonah 2:8 NIV84). For therein are ways of pleasantness, and her paths are peace (Pr 3:17). Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not Thy law (Ps 119:134).
Test the spirits on these men and you will find them to be liars (Rev 2:2; 1Jn 4:1). People that have left Brother Stair have not departed from the truth – they have found the truth. They have fled from the Sodom Gomorrah Babylon confusion that is The Overcomer. No, not all of them returned to following hard after God, because the fruit of Brother Stair in their lives was sadly one of destruction. His profane and vain babblings worked to overthrow the faith of some (2Tim 2:16-18; Songs 2:15; Mt 7:20).
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal,
The Lord knoweth them that are His.
And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
