And many others that have come in these last days deceiving people into thinking they are God’s anointed, some great one, the great power of God (Matt 24:5;  Mark 13:6;  Acts 8:9-10).

Elijah Must First Come

The thinking is that the prophet Elijah will return before the great and dreadful day of the Lord (Malachi 4:5) to restore all things (Matthew 17:11).  Many people believe themselves to be working in “the spirit and power of Elijah” today, although not claiming to be THE Prophet.  Today there is felt to be a need for restoration – the restoration of holiness, true Biblical doctrine, gifts of the Spirit, and authority.  It appears The Christian world is ripe for an Elijah to appear but also susceptible to a false Elijah.

A true Elijah will point to Jesus Christ, as John the Baptist did, without claiming anything special for himself.  This Elijah to come was John – as declared by Jesus – if you will receive it from Jesus (Matt 11:14).  Jesus was THAT Prophet that Moses spoke of if you will receive it from Peter (Acts 3:22-26;  Deut 18:15, 18-19).  If you don’t receive what Jesus said about John fulfilling Elijah then you fall under the judgment of God given to Moses, And I will hold accountable anyone who does not listen to My words that the prophet speaks in My name (Deut 18:19).

The Coming Last Day Prophet

There is a coming “Last Day prophet” to watch out for though:

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshiped his image.  These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone (Rev 19:20).
