Talk about a strong delusion. If Brother Stair really believes that he is “sealed” no matter what he does, he is not loving the truth that he needs to repent because he loves the unrighteousness of his unbridled lust.
If the pre-tribulation rapture doctrine were a strong delusion – thinking you’re sealed without repentance is a stronger delusion.
Brother Stair doesn’t want the brothers to watch him to make sure he doesn’t go astray. Unless he’s desiring repentance so much that he submits to assistance from the brothers, their watchfulness is useless. Without Brother Stair’s submission, he will just hide his sin (sometimes not so well) for fear of getting caught as he has done for decades. He has confessed to walking in sexual sin for 70 years, yet he has tried to hide his sins rather than repent of them – to the point of claiming that he was without sin (until he was caught in 2001).
True repentance will bring a “this has got to stop no matter what I have to do to make it stop” mentality.
2 Timothy 2:20-22 (KJV)
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver,
but also of wood and of earth;
and some to honour,
and some to dishonor.
If a man therefore purge himself from these,
he shall be a vessel unto onour,
and meet for the master’s use [if},
and prepared unto every good work [if].
Flee also youthful lusts:
but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace,
with them that call on the Lord
out of a pure heart.
